The SCTE and CableLabswill collaborate to present a DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering Pre-Conference Symposium on Monday, Oct. 21, prior to the official opening of the Cable-Tec Expo conference.
The symposium, one of two pre-conference events to Cable-Tec Expo, will provide engineering and operations professionals with a 360-degree view of DOCSIS 3.1, including: the Downstream Physical Layer; the Downstream Convergence Layer; the Upstream Physical Layer; Upstream Framing onto the PHY; and the MAC Layer.
In addition, the symposium will address preparation of cable networks for the specification and an overview of MSOs’ deployment plans.
“The seamless rollout of DOCSIS 3.1 services will play an important role in the deployment of next generation services,” said Ralph Brown, CTO of CableLabs and a member of the SCTE board of directors. “Our partnership with SCTE is designed to provide the cable technical workforce with enhanced understanding of the specification early on in order to accelerate its deployment and maximize its value to the industry.”
“The DOCSIS 3.1 session we co-hosted with CableLabs last year was one of the highlights of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo,” said Daniel Howard, senior vice president, engineering and CTO of SCTE. “We’ve created this symposium with an eye toward building on that success—combining subject matter experts and increased time availability to provide an optimal learning environment at Expo.”
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 is set for Monday through Thursday, Oct. 21-24. Both the DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering event and a second symposium, “Creating the Cable Generalist,” will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 21. SCTE Cable-Tec Expo and the symposia will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Registration for both SCTE Cable-Tec Expo and the symposia are at the SCTE web site. Kevin Hart, executive vice president and CTO of Cox Communications, is the Expo 2013 program chairman.
