The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, the International Society of Broadband Experts (its global arm) and the SCTE Foundation announced $60,000 in awards that are intended to benefit current members of the cable technology workforce, as well as STEM programs at the scholastic level.
“Driving learning in both our current and next-generation workforces is central to cable’s mission to sustain technical leadership,” Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE/ISBE, says.
The awards draw on money raised as part of the SCTE Foundation’s multimillion dollar Advancing Cable Excellence (ACE) campaign, and include support for college or technical training for SCTE/ISBE members and ongoing support for high school FIRST robotics clubs or groups.
Applications for the following two awards that total $15,000 are available now, with a deadline of May 31. Eligibility requirements and applications are available here.
• An SCTE Foundation Scholarship for Engineering and Software Development that is available to anyone who has been an SCTE/ISBE member for four years and currently is working in a technical capacity. The scholarship is for $12,500 and funds education toward a degree program at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, technical training through SCTE/ISBE or affiliated industry training and certifications, including online and distance learning opportunities.
• An SCTE Foundation Grant for FIRST that offers $2,500 for a high school FIRST robotics team. At least one member of the team must have a parent who is an SCTE/ISBE member in good standing, and the team must be affiliated with the student’s high school.
