SCTE Wednesday announced that John Schanz, executive vice president and Chief Network Officer at Comcast, will serve as program committee chairman for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2016 when the show returns to Philadelphia.
Schanz succeeds Balan Nair, executive vice president and CTO of Liberty Global, as program committee chair. Schanz and Nair are co-chairs of SCTE’s Energy 2020 program, which aims to drastically reduce energy consumption across the industry.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2016 is scheduled for Monday through Thursday, Sept. 26-29 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
“John Schanz’s vision of the future and his commitment to innovation have been key factors in shaping the roadmap to cable telecommunications’ future,” said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE and ISBE, praising Schanz’s vision.
“His understanding of the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry will help us create a compelling Expo 2016 program that will benefit all of the stakeholders—operators, vendors and individual members—in cable technology.”
Since joining Comcast in 2006, Schanz has overseen national engineering for network and systems operations for Comcast’s video, high-speed Internet and voice cable services for both residential customers and businesses. He also plays a leadership role in technology strategy for the deployment of new, complementary communications products and services.
