Steve Collar has been promoted to CEO Designate of satellite operator SES as part of an executive handover from the current CFO and CEO.
Andrew Browne has also been appointed to a new position as next CFO of SES, stepping up from CFO of O3b Networks and formerly CFO of SES between 2010 and 2013.
SES works with many different United States television operators. In April 2017 they began trials of a 4K content delivery platform with 30 operators. On Feb. 9 SES announced that they would be proposing joint use of the C-band downlink spectrum for satellite and terrestrial mobile operators.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Steve and Andrew as our next CEO and CFO,” said SES Chairman Romain Bausch in a statement. “They each have extensive experience with SES and the broader satellite industry, especially also as the architects of O3b, the fastest growing and most successful satellite start-up.”
Collar previously worked as CEO of SES Networks.
“I am excited to lead SES into its next phase of development, building on the achievements of 2017 and the foundations that have been laid,” Collar said. “I thank the Board for their trust and support. Our focus will be on strong execution in the short term, continuing to roll out differentiated services to our customers, and staying focused on the long term delivery of our forward-looking strategy.”
Karim Michel Sabbagh announced he would step down from the role of president and CEO effective April 5, 2018 to spend time with family and pursue new interests. CFO Padraig McCarthy will also retire effective April 5, with the intention to stay at the company’s disposal.
