Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) is helping support the 2014 Create West Virginia Conference by offering free Wi-Fi in Glenville, W.Va.
Shentel’s free Wi-Fi offer started on Oct. 15 and is slated to run through the rest of the month.
Shentel set-up Wi-Fi access points near a number of popular restaurants and other high traffic areas in historic downtown Glenville. The complimentary Wi-Fi access eatures download speeds up to 101 Mbps. Locations include Court Street outside Pickens Hall and the City Council building; the Main Street region around and including Audrey’s Restaurant; Lewis Street around and including Pizza Hut/Wing Street, and Lewis Street around and including Smokey’s BBQ.
“During that 17-day period at the end of October, it’s safe to say that those downtown Glenville hotspots will have the fastest free service of any place in the entire state of West Virginia,” said Jeff James, president of the Create West Virginia board of directors, and a Glenville native.
In addition to this month’s free Wi-Fi hotspot access, Shentel also recently installed a DOCIS 3.0-based 500 Mbps broadband service at Glenville State College. The package included a 68-channel TV lineup, a cable channel dedicated exclusively for Glenville State College use and connected services in the school’s new Waco Center and Morris Stadium to allow real-time television coverage of sports and events.
“We’re delighted to be working with Create West Virginia and Glenville State College to offer these advanced technology services in the Glenville community,” said Tom Whitaker, Shentel vice president of cable. “Shentel is committed to providing superior broadband services in the rural communities we serve. Small towns and cities like Glenville deserve the same high-speed internet services that are common in larger towns and cities in America. Shentel offers these services in our rural West Virginia communities today.”
