Showtime Networks is set to duplicate HBO’s iPad app with the same enabling technology from Azuki Systems.
Showtime has selected the Azuki Media Platform to support the programmer’s Showtime Anytime authentication service on the iPad.
The app will be available with “participating distributers,” but there have been no announcements yet on which of Showtime’s MVPD partners will be working with Showtime to commercialize the app.
Showtime said it has plans to follow the iPad app with another specifically for the iPhone. An Azuki spokesman said there’s no word yet on whether Showtime will follow with apps for other platforms, such as Android.
Showtime subscribers will now have instant access on their iPads to Showtime content.
Azuki has been finding success among programmers such as HBO and Showtime with its Azuki Media Platform. The system was designed to deliver protected content to any device over any network. The company said it built the system to allow customers to insert ads and support user interfaces along with navigation, search and discovery of content.
