Chip designer Silicon Image has joined the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA).
The company proposes that consumer electronics (CE) makers incorporate its LiquidHD ICs in their products so that CE devices can be easily plugged into distribution networks in consumers’ homes.
One such option is MoCA, a means of distributing media, including HD video, via coaxial cable.
MSOs are interested in the LiquidHD technology because it promises to provide a simple means of supporting multi-room video, not coincidentally requiring minimal investment or effort on their part.
“We are very pleased to join MoCA and are looking forward to working with the alliance to promote high-definition and high-fidelity media streaming on multiple screens throughout the home,” said Rob Tobias, director of product marketing at Silicon Image. “MoCA is very complementary to Silicon Image’s recently introduced LiquidHD suite of protocols, as it supports whole-home entertainment networking.”
