Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has upgraded its global ConnectPlus IPLC network with control plane and switching technology from Ciena.
SingTel has deployed Ciena’s 5410 Packet-Optical Reconfigurable Switch System (RSS) and OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane software to help enterprise businesses have access to highly reliable high-speed services on an optical network that is capable of data transfers of up to 10 Gbps per single connection.
SingTel has operations in 26 countries and more than 135 points of presence across 80 global cities worldwide. To beef up its global ConnectPlus IPLC & E-Line services, SingTel needed a network solution that could meet the growing demand for a mix of assured service delivery, low-latency and high-bandwidth services for enterprise and wholesale customers worldwide.
Ciena’s 5410 RSS links SingTel’s global points-of-presence to provide efficient aggregation, grooming and intelligent switching of SONET/SDH, OTN, and high-capacity leased line and Ethernet traffic in a resilient mesh network design across existing submarine capacity. The enhancement also unlocked the delivery of tiered service levels and differentiated service offerings such as Optical Virtual Private Networks (O-VPN).
Ciena’s OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane technology allows SingTel to detect faults swiftly and automatically switch data traffic to backup routes on the fly.
“At SingTel, customers’ business priorities have always been our key focus. With the implementation of these latest technologies in our network, customers’ networks will be future-ready for the delivery of ICT services across multiple geographies,” said Goh Boon Huat, vice president of business products at SingTel. “We can help our customers achieve greater business advantage by allowing them to deploy data-intensive applications, such as video conferencing, multimedia, data analysis and business continuity planning.
