With my religious devotion to a daily dose of coffee, brewing up some tea can occasionally be overlooked. Well, today tea is front and center. A tiny, cubed sensor, designed by 42Tea, might just change up your tea brewing days for the better.
Have your phones at the ready, because before you start enjoying the benefits of the 42Tea’s smart sensor, you’ll need to download its companion app. There you can select which specific blend of tea you’re ready to create. This step is vital because every tea has a specific set of instructions, each containing differences in the preparation process.
According to their Kickstarter page, “Gyokuro (green tea) brews at 115°F (46°C) for 2 and half minutes, an ordinary Sencha (other green tea) brews only 1 minute at 195°F (91°C) and a Bai Mu Dan (white tea) needs almost 20 minutes at 140°F (60°C).” What a difference! The app will let you know the precise temperature, brew time and tea-to-water ratio that’ll make your specific cup simply delightful.
By dropping the tiny sensor cube into your brewing kettle, it’ll send an alert to the synced app when the water has reached its ideal temperature. Don’t worry about this little guy’s durability in the boiling hot water. The sensor can endure temperatures up to 250°F (121°C).
Once you tip the kettle and pour everything out, the sensor will detect the action and set a countdown timer. The timer will notify you how long you need to wait until the liquid has properly steeped. Once the leaves have reached their ideal soaking time, you can then enjoy everyone’s favorite and final step – drinking the delicious drink.
The longevity of the small, cubed sensor is around three years. This number was derived by estimating an average of five to ten brews per week. If something goes awry, replacement batteries for the tiny device can be obtained from the company.
42Tea has successfully funded their Kickstarter campaign this September, hopefully shipping out their product by the end of the year.
