Comcast Business announced that it has extended its network into Manvel, Texas, to reach manufacturing, distribution, logistics and other businesses. The city is just south of Houston in Brazoria County.
The local chamber of commerce is giving the thumbs-up and pointing to the rollout as a way Manvel can attract more companies and further boost its economy. “As our city continues to grow, so too will the demand for access to high-performance networks – it’s a must-have for businesses across all industries,” Johanna McWilliams, president and CEO of the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce, says. “By offering this technology, we will attract more organizations and help the local economy continue to grow.”
Manvel’s population has doubled over the past 13 years, and the Comcast Business network expansion covers a wide variety of businesses including restaurants, retail storefronts, daycare centers, pharmacies and a library. In addition to the expansion to the business district of Manvel, Comcast also reports that it’s extending its fiber network to the Pomona, Sterling Lakes and Meridiana residential neighborhoods.
John Phillips, VP of Comcast Business, Houston region says the company will continue to look for similar expansion opportunities in the area. “The growth in Manvel over the past 10 years made it stand out as a highly desirable location for investment by Comcast Business,” Phillips notes. “As we look to further develop high-capacity network infrastructure in the Houston area, it’s important that we identify cities like Manvel which show not only a history of growth but potential for additional business expansion.”
The operator reports that this recently completed investment of close to $400,000 means more than 140 additional local businesses now have access to bandwidth capacity of up to 10 Gbps.
