With a bit of new software, users of Arris’ C4 CMTSs can double the number of bonded downstream channels to eight to achieve data transfer rates of up to 343 Mbps.
Arris said some of its customers have already begun to deploy its Release 7.4 eXtended Downstream Cable Access Module (XD CAM) field upgrade; the upgrade is now available for any customer to purchase.
The upgrade enables the DOCSIS 3.0 C4 CMTS to double its density from 16D to 32D without the need for any wiring, hardware changes, or even the temporary removal of the modules from the chassis (the EuroDOCSIS version will have a maximum throughput of 445 Mbps).
Also available in Release 7.4 is support for IPv6, as well as DOCSIS 3.0 multicast traffic, Arris said.
The company reports that this is the technology that Comcast used in its recent test of native dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6) CPE support for its customers in the Denver area.
Operators will be able to deploy IPv6 with confidence and, by combining multicast IP video with DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding, will be able to deliver IP video in the most efficient way possible, Arris said.
