Solar energy employs more people in the electricity generation sector than any other power source.
The United States Department of Energy released its second annual United States Energy and Employment report (via Statista) in January, showing that solar power accounted for 43 percent of the workforce in the area of electric power generation. That’s significantly higher than fossil fuels, including coal, natural gas, and oil, which take the second spot at 22 percent.
President Donald Trump pushes to support the economy by creating more jobs in fossil fuels, while proponents of renewable energy point to solar as the way of a sustainable future. The employment gap between the two is widening, with net coal generation decreasing 53 percent in 10 years while solar, a relatively new industry, grew 5,000 percent in the same time period.
