A U.S. Army Commendation Medal recipient for inventing a secure one-way method for gathering human intelligence (HUMINT), Chris Petrella first conceived of the idea of portable solar power while in the wilderness, where he made his first experimental solar generator. Twelve patents and over 3 years of product development later, the BakUpBox is the only portable solar power system, made in the USA, that is in full compliance with the Trade Agreements Act (TAA), a fundamental requirement of many government contracts, and that weighs under 11 pounds.
“Power is everything, especially when you don’t have it,” said Petrella, the founder and CEO of Unlimited Power Ltd. “The military, National Guard, and municipalities understand that when power is most needed they can always rely on the BakUpBox in any situation, anywhere, at any time.”
Unlimited Power Ltd. is a leading innovator in solar and alternative energy technology, design, engineering, and manufacturing, and creator of the world’s lightest and most reliable portable solar power sources.
Petrella is not new to the world of sustainable energy. A well-respected economic development consultant, legislative advisor, and lobbyist for over 10 years, he was instrumental in changing State and Federal legislative policy to allow free competition and open markets for Emerging Technologies. He rewrote the law pertaining to “Statutory Price Limitations on Alternative Fuel Vehicles,” enabling manufacturers to set a fair and equitable price for all commercially available alternative fuel vehicles.
Petrella also led the team that created the first U.S. Government-wide engineering specifications for Plug-in Electric Vehicles. This standard is used nationwide by all towns, cities, states, and federal agencies when purchasing alternative fuel vehicles.
“Global Energy Storage is predicted to grow to a $50 billion industry by 2020. Coupled with recent technology improvements that have driven down costs of solar energy storage, the ability to store and transport power has become important and practical not only for emergencies but for adventure and everyday use as well,” said Petrella. “The premier, patented BakUpBox line provides the lightest, most reliable, and sustainable portable solar power systems available today.”
“The BakUpBox is the most wonderful invention that I have seen. With the use of solar power it keeps you connected. No need to stock up or run out and get gas for this generator, or deal with the noise or fumes,” said Joe Dill, Greenville County Council District 17. “Solar energy is definitely the energy source of the future.”
Currently tested by the National Guard, FEMA, and a growing number of municipalities across the country, BakUpBox is easily available on a GSA contract to all federal government civilian and military agencies and departments. The BakUpBox is specifically engineered to power federal, state, and local government agency missions, disaster preparedness and recovery, EMS, and other first-responder duties.
