Sprint Nextel’s CEO told attendees at the NXTcomm show in Las Vegas this week that Sprint is targeting September for the launch of its WiMAX service.
According to CNET, the service will launch first in Baltimore in September, followed by unspecified rollout dates in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Sprint has pushed back the launch date of its WiMAX service several times, including a planned debut earlier this year. Sprint was reportedly having problems provisioning the backhaul portion of its WiMAX network earlier this year. Financial and management issues have also been cited as reasons for the delay.
Sprint announced last month that it would spin-off its WiMAX assets in a partnership with Clearwire in order build out a nationwide WiMAX network. For more on the Sprint-Clearwire partnership, click here.
