Sprint Nextel has upgraded the Sprint Power Vision Network with the faster EV-DO Revision A technology in several major U.S. markets. Sprint has installed Revision A in Boston, Hartford (Conn.), Buffalo and Rochester (N.Y.), and Pittsburgh.
Those cities are among the first 21 where Sprint intends to roll out the upgrade before the end of 2006. By 3Q 2007, Sprint’s Power Vision network is expected to be completely upgraded to the faster EV-DO Revision A.
The company’s current EV-DO network offers rates in the neighborhood of 50 kbps to 70 kbps; revision A supports average rates of 300 kbps to 400 kbps.
Sprint also said it has upgraded both its Sprint and Nextel wireless broadband networks in and around Chicago and Detroit. The networks in those metropolitan areas are still separate.
