Artificial intelligence is not new to the world, but what about a chessboard that uses AI? Square Off, a seemingly ordinary chessboard, is shocking players with its self-moving pieces, according to New Atlas.
The automated chessboard lets users play against anyone in the world, and has a mechanism that is paired with the actual board and a smartphone app. When a chess piece moves on its own, it brings the meaning of ‘smart’ games to your tabletop.
The companion app for the chessboard is free on both Android and iOS. The app connects the board to your smartphone and provides you with more than 23 million opponents on Chess.com. Only the player with the physical chessboard gets to experience magic moving pieces. The response times of the chess pieces are quite quick, creating a seamless chess-playing experience.
Square Off offers two versions—The Kingdom and The Grand Kingdom set. The Grand Kingdom set has premium features such as a designated spot for all the pieces that get knocked out of the game. Additionally, once you’re done playing you can auto-reset the board with your phone.
Square Off brings a whole new world of players to chess enthusiasts.
