According to Parks Associates, security cameras are the most popular smart home devices, and more than 40 percent of people who own one access the devices daily or almost daily through an app.
So Xfinity Home customers obsessed with watching what the dog is up to are probably going to be happy to hear that Comcast has unveiled 24/7 video recording today. Oh, and the security benefits of the add-on will probably please them as well. It’s a cloud- and motion-based video monitoring solution, and the operator reports that it is the nation’s largest residential home security provider to offer a continuous video recording service.
This new security and monitoring feature gives customers the ability to review past footage for up to 10 days on the Xfinity Home app or a computer. Users also can download video clips up to one minute to save or share with friends, family or law enforcement and find key moments to watch by scrolling through a list of video clips captured when the camera detects motion. Comcast also reports that it leverages “industry-leading video analytics to reduce false motion events such as falling leaves or lighting changes.”
“Continuous video recording has consistently been the most requested feature by customers, and the use cases span a wide range of interests from keeping an eye on an elderly parent or waiting for a package to checking in on your pet or watching your home while you’re away,” Daniel Herscovici, senior vice president and general manager at Xfinity Home, says.
24/7 video recording is reportedly available now in most of Comcast’s major markets including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, D.C., Miami and Philadelphia. The op says it will be available to all Xfinity Home customers in the next few months.
