STEAMConnect, a grassroots organization based in San Diego dedicated to fostering ties between STEM education programs and arts initiatives, will host its 2nd annual STEAMConnect Ascend Conference at the Irwin Jacobs Qualcomm Hall (5775 Morehouse Drive, San Diego, from 9am to 5pm).
Over 500 cross-disciplinary individuals are expected to attend—ranging from arts and STEM educators, to school administrators, business leaders from STEM and creative industries, nonprofits, parents, students and policymakers. Early bird pricing is extended through January 23rd. To register, visit www.steamconnect.org
Under the theme “Moving from Dialogue to Action,” the 2015 STEAM Connect conference will feature a day-long series of workshops, panel discussions and Spotlight Booths—a curated collection of the latest developments in STEAM including new research, outreach opportunities and resources. Most importantly, the conference will provide a dedicated space for cross-disciplinary connection, inspiration and collaboration.
Qualcomm is returning as the conference site sponsor. This year’s Conference Spotlight Booths are co-sponsored by the Classroom of the Future Foundation, and the Academy of Our Lady of Peace (a Catholic girls high school in San Diego that champions STEAM programs).
During the Conference Opening Sessions, a distinguished group of speakers—Yvonne Spicer (Museum of Science Boston), Jeff M. Poulin (Americans for the Arts), Christopher Roe (California STEM Learning Network) and Craig Watson (California Arts Council)—will lead discussions about the regional, national and international context and incentives for building STEAM programs.
The remainder of the conference will feature a range of Interactive Panel Sessions designed around 4 focus areas: Education, Community, Industry and Policy. Conference attendees will learn more about topics such as diversity in STEAM, educator professional development, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Common Core, STEAM careers, research updates, policy initiatives and more.
