Seeso, the NBCUniversal-owned comedy streaming service, officially announced it will be shutting down later this year.
“We’re writing to let you know that later this year, Seeso will be shutting its comedy doors,” the service writes in a Wednesday Facebook post. “Though we will be departing, much of our comedy will live on – and some of your favorite Seeso Originals have already found a new home.”
According to Seeso, originals such as “HarmonQuest,” “My Brother, My Brother and Me,” “Hidden America with Jonah Ray,” and “The Cyanide and Happiness Show,” will be available on the VRV streaming service.
The show “There’s…Johnny!”, which follows the behind-the-scene world of Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show,” will no longer premiere this month as previously scheduled.
Seeso’s streaming service debuted back in January of 2016 at a price point of $3.99 per month and offered access to over 2,000 hours of original content, as well as classic shows like “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and “Saved By the Bell.”
Rumors began circulating about Seeso’s future after the service’s head Evan Shapiro departed in May. His exit was followed by company layoffs in June, as the SVOD service’s business model was reevaluated.
