Suddenlink is scheduled to launch video-on-demand (VOD) next week in its Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, San Angelo, Snyder and Sweetwater cable systems in Texas.

Up next would be Andrews, Big Spring and Plainview in Texas, and Clovis, N.M. Those systems should get VOD by the end of the year. Suddenlink plans to extend the availability of VOD to other systems through 2009.
Suddenlink will be using Macrovision’s i-Guide interactive program guide (IPG), which Suddenlink is pre-loading on set-top boxes slated for delivery to new digital customers. The same guide will be deployed electronically to digital boxes that are already in customer homes.
The company said it is expanding its inventory of high-definition (HD) programming, and to whet subscribers’ appetites for the service, more than one-third of the Suddenlink VOD library will be free.
The introduction of the service was signaled earlier this year when Suddenlink announced the completion of a 957-mile fiber-ring project in western Texas, built specifically to support new HD channels, VOD and other new services (see “Suddenlink flips switch on 957-mile fiber ring in Texas”).
In addition to the markets already mentioned, the ring also connects Suddenlink systems in Floydada, Post and Tulia, all in Texas.
