Employees from Time Warner Cable, Suddenlink Communications and Cable One will go toe to toe in next week’s SCTE IP Challenge ahead of Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando.
Two representatives from Suddenlink, two from Time Warner Cable and one from Cable One earned the right in online qualifying rounds to participate in the live finals from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 16. Among the participants is last year’s winner, Steve Callahan from Time Warner Cable.
The finals of the SCTE IP Challenge will combine a fast-paced “Jeopardy”-style question format, router and CMTS configuration, and hands-on activities – all before a live audience at the Orange County Convention Center. Cisco is sponsoring the event.
Approximately 120 SCTE members, representing all levels of the cable operator workforce, participated in the online qualifying rounds. Two of the finalists – Jason Byrd of Suddenlink and Christopher Fox of Time Warner Cable – earned trips to the finals for the second straight year. Other finalists include: Bradford Chatterjee of Cable One, Beau Guidry of Time Warner Cable and Craig Littlefield of Suddenlink.
“The SCTE IP Challenge is not for the faint of heart,” said Steve Harris, senior director of advanced network technologies for SCTE and creator of the IP Challenge. “The commitment that each of these finalists has made to mastering a difficult subject is considerable. We’re looking forward to a spirited final that shows off the ‘best of the best’ of cable’s engineering and operations workforce.”
The 2012 finalists received complimentary registrations to SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, which kicks off with pre-conference sessions on Oct. 16 and then continues through Oct. 19. The IP Challenge winner will receive one full conference pass to Cisco Live and one full conference pass to defend the title at next year’s Cable-Tec Expo.
