Here’s a snapshot of product and business news to emerge from this week’s Supercomm show in Chicago, Ill.:
• IPTV set-top maker Amino Communications has launched a box that supports advanced MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression, with shipments to customers slated for next month.
The AmiNET124 model will use about 40 percent less network bandwidth than traditional boxes based on MPEG-2 compression. In ADSL settings, the box can offer two or more video streams per home, rather than just one. Telcos are also looking to MPEG-4 technology to drive more bandwidth-intensive HDTV video services.
• Targeting IP-based video and voice services, Juniper Networks Inc. has beefed up its E320 Broadband Services Router to scale from 100 Gbps to 320 Gbps, and to support up to 128,000 individual subscribers.
• Ciena Corp. has added a 10 Gigabit Ethernet module for its CN 4350 Ethernet Services Provisioning Switch – a carrier-grade platform outfitted for telco and cable service providers.
• ADC and Calient Networks have inked a joint marketing agreement whereby Calient has integrated its DiamondWave optical switch with ADC’s fiber distribution frame technology.
The resulting product, the Calient AFM, will scale to support between 64 to 640 fiber terminations, the companies said.
• Riverstone Networks has made several enhancements to its 15008 Ethernet Edge Router to permit the convergence of triple play consumer and businesses services, including the addition of BGP/MPLS VPNs, IPv6 dynamic routing, and ATM and POS interfaces.
• Entone Technologies has teamed with Neterion Inc. on a 10-Gigabit Ethernet high-definition IPTV platform.
The demo is showing off the integration of Neterion’s 10-GigE adapter with Entone’s StreamLiner servers.
• Fujitsu Network Communications has inked a deal to integrate the BTI Photonics Systems Inc. Netstender platform with its FLASHWAVE portfolio.
The resulting FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system will enable carriers to combine multiplexing, amplification, signal conditioning, optical add/drop, and performance monitoring in the same solution.
