Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Cox Communications, announced it has donated $100,00 to the American Red Cross to help recovery efforts in communities that were affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Cox Enterprises made the donation in partnership with The James M. Cox Foundation.
“Our company has a history of supporting the communities where we operate,” said Jim Kennedy, chairman of Cox Enterprises. “This storm left incredible damage, and we believe it’s important to empower our employees and communities during this time of recovery.”
Superstorm Sandy impacted Cox Communications’ cable subscribers in New England and Virginia, as well as Cox Enterprise subsidiaries Cox Media Group and Manheim in various locations.
In addition to the $100,000 donation, Cox properties also provided additional support in the areas impacted by the storm, including in-kind support for the American Red Cross by Cox subsidiary AutoTrader and Cox Communications via banner ads and public service announcements.
Some Manheim auto auctions in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast are donating $5 to the American Red Cross for every flood-damaged vehicle registered and sold through Dec. 31.
Cox’s impacted employees also have the opportunity to receive support through the Cox Employee Relief Fund (CERF). Created in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the fund provides assistance to Cox employees and their families who are impacted by disasters. Since 2005, CERF has provided more than $3 million to assist more than 1,500 employees affected by hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and other devastating events.
