SureWest Communications took another step this week toward its goal to offer a triple play of IP-based video, voice and data in Sacramento, Calif.
SureWest — which operates a fiber-to-the-home network there following its acquisition last year of assets from overbuilder Winfirst — has tapped video services management software from Minerva Networks Inc. to handle a major portion of the operator’s IP digital video offering.
SureWest also offers video services in Sacramento via a parallel hybrid fiber/coax network, but is transitioning that service to its FTTH grid throughout 2003. SureWest’s network passes about 45,000 homes in Sacramento.
It’s also expected that SureWest will collaborate with Minerva to offer IP video services in its traditional, 83-square mile territory in nearby Roseville.
SureWest spokesman Dave Kamp said the company could disclose those plans in the next 45 days or so.
