A broadband provider’s vision for an all-IP world drew a few steps closer this week.
SureWest Communications said it will use gear from Cisco Systems to populate its fiber-to-the-home project in Sacramento, Calif. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The network, which SureWest will leverage to offer a trio of IP-based voice, video and data services, will house components such as Cisco’s Catalyst 6500 Series and 4500 Series switches.
SureWest said the strategy has boosted take rates in the region.
“Over half of our Sacramento area customers are opting for the ‘triple play,’ and over 80 percent take at least two lines of service,” said SureWest CTO Bill DeMuth.
SureWest’s ambitions for Sacramento got off the ground last June when it inked a $12 million deal to buy the assets of troubled cable overbuilder WINfirst.
