TDS Telecom has fired up its first 1-Gig service offering in Hollis, New Hampshire for less than $100 a month as part of a bundle.
The 1 Gbps service, which features 400 Mbps on the upstream, came on the heels of TDS launching a 300 Mbps service on its fiber network that serves Hollis in December. The 1 Gbps service is available with TDS TV, which is an all-digital, Mediaroom-based service.
“Both TDS TV and 1Gig represent the best technology money can buy,” said Matt Apps, manager of Internet product management and development at TDS. “While Hollis is the first TDS-served community with 1Gig service, it won’t be the last. This is just the start for our launch of super-high speed Internet.”
On the vendor side, TDS said it worked with Actiontec Electronics and Calix on the 1-Gig service. Actiontec is the customer premise equipment supplier while Calix has deployed its E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform and 700GE family of optical network terminals.
TDS’ 1 Gbps Internet service includes a free subscription to remote PC support, which provides users with unlimited access to technical support. The technicians assist with device setup, Internet troubleshooting, plus computer optimization and safety.
TDS Telecom, the seventh largest local exchange telephone company in the U.S., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. TDS Telecom provides 1.1 million connections to high-speed Internet, phone, and TV entertainment services to customers in more than a hundred rural, suburban, and metropolitan communities.
Last month TDS announced it was buying BendBroadband for $262 million after acquiring Baja Broadband last year.
