In order to better serve the increasing number of personal digital devices used by customers, including PCs, Macs, tablets and iPhones, TDS Telecom is now offering a new personal cloud service.
The new service, which is called “younited,” uses F-Secure’s technology to allow TDS customers to back up info, and store photos and videos in the cloud. The new service is available for $5.95 a month or can be purchased as part of a “Plus “Pack.”
According to Nielsen, the average American owns four digital devices. Marketing Charts, a prominent marketing trends newsletter, has said college students own an average of seven digital devices.
TDS said in its release that while traditional backup services do well backing up computer files, they don’t address mobile devices.
“We all want to know our files—no matter where they are stored—are backed up and secure, but we also need a fast and easy way to make that happen,” said Casey Thompson, manager of consumer product development at TDS. “What’s so powerful about younited is it allows customers to unify all their files—whether they are photos taken on a smartphone, videos taken on a tablet, important office documents, or files in other cloud services like DropBox. With younited, they’re all accessible from one location.”
Younited subscribers can share files with friends and family using the service’s secure email and text links or even by linking to a Chromecast TV dongle. Customers also have the option to “unshare” previously shared files for additional control over their digital footprint.
“The service is an incredibly safe way to backup all your important files, and it’s also just so much more convenient,” Thompson said. “It’s automatic so you can ‘set it and forget it’ but still organize, access, and share what you want in seconds.”
Users of TDS previous online backup service will automatically be upgraded to younited.
Earlier this year, TDS Telecom bought Oregon cable operator BendBroadband, and has launched 1 Gigabit services in several cities in its footprint.
