TDS Telecom has launched its 1 Gigabit service in another town in New Hampshire.
The recent deployment in New London followed on the heels of TDS’s first 1 Gbps deployment in Hollis, N.H. in May. The 1 Gig service, which features 400 Mbps on the upstream, is available in both New Hampshire locations for less than $100 a month as part of a bundle.
“There are virtually no limitations with 1 Gig,” said Matt Apps, manager of Internet product management and development at TDS. “The speed is one hundred times faster than the U.S. average. With 1Gig Internet service, customers can use the Internet full-throttle.”
TDS’ 1 Gbps Internet service includes a free subscription to remote PC support, which provides users with unlimited access to technical support. The technicians assist with device setup, Internet troubleshooting, plus computer optimization and safety.
TDS said it worked with Actiontec Electronics and Calix on the 1-Gig service. Actiontec is the customer premise equipment supplier while Calix has deployed its E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform and 700GE family of optical network terminals.
On the video side, TDS TV, which uses the Mediaroom platform, has more than 260 all-digital channels, VOD, pay-per-view, picture-in-picture channel surfing, and instant channel change. It also includes a connected-home master DVR, which links all TVs together in a home giving full DVR functionality to each set-top box.
“Both TDS TV and 1 Gig offer the best technology out there,” said Apps. “As New London is the second TDS-served community with 1Gig service, we plan to extend it to more communities in the coming weeks.”
TDS Telecom, the seventh largest local exchange telephone company in the U.S., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. TDS Telecom provides 1.1 million connections to high-speed Internet, phone, and TV entertainment services to customers in more than a hundred rural, suburban, and metropolitan communities.
Earlier this year, TDS announced it was buying BendBroadband for $262 million after acquiring Baja Broadband last year.
