TDS Telecom to Deploy TiVo’s Next-Gen IPTV Platform

July 17, 2018 By Bevin Fletcher

TDS Telecom announced Tuesday that it will deploy TiVo’s Next-Gen Platform to power its new IPTV video offering for TV subscribers.

The TiVo platform enables a uniform user experience across a variety of devices, including managed Android TV set-top boxes and unmanaged streaming devices like Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, along with iOS and Android mobile devices.

TiVo’s offering will enable greater personalization, advanced search and recommendations, voice control, and content discovery across linear, OTT, on-demand and cloud-DVR platforms, according to the company. The cloud-based, device-agnostic service is also set to deliver enhanced multiscreen capabilities.

“We are thrilled to partner with TDS Telecom and bring our industry-leading innovations and must-have features to their customers,” said Michael Hawkey, SVP and general manager of User Experience at TiVo, in a statement. “TiVo’s robust product portfolio provides the flexibility, scalability and next-gen IPTV services that will enable TDS Telecom to better anticipate and address constantly evolving consumer behaviors and needs.”

The companies indicated that TDS is leveraging a full suite of IPTV solutions including IPVOD, IP linear, start-over/catch-up and nDVR. Nokia’s Velocrix Media Delivery Platform is powering the backend content delivery network (CDN).

“We’re delighted to be working closely with TiVo and TDS Telecom to deliver a truly compelling entertainment experience to TDS subscribers,” said Scott Cohen, VP of Sales for Nokia. “The combination of Nokia’s Velocix Media Delivery Platform and TiVo’s User Experience is an ideal choice for anyone interested in a pre-integrated, best-of-breed IP video solution that can power cloud DVR, linear, and video on-demand services on every consumer screen.”

TDS, which has 1.2 million high-speed internet, phone and TV entertainment connections, said the new solution will help reduce churn and drive customer engagement.  The operator said it will roll out its new video solution to new and existing customers in both its cable operations and wireline service areas.

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz. However, the certainty of the grid frequency is coming into question, thanks to the rising percentage of renewable energy sources that…
