Adding another acquisition to its list, TDS Metrocom, a subsidiary of TDS Telecom, announced an agreement to buy Merrimac Communications.
The Merrimac, Wis.-based operator’s network passes more than 6,000 homes in three counties. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This investment provides an excellent clustering opportunity for our TDS operations in Wisconsin,” Jim Butman, COO at TDS, comments in a statement. “Merrimac Communications services areas nestled between communities TDS already serves, which will allow us to easily connect our network and infrastructure in Dane County with Merrimac’s local operations.”
This is the latest of the operator’s acquisitions.
Earlier this year the company purchased Sun Prairie Utilities’ fiber network, and then launched new FTTH services in Sun Prairie, Wis., in September. Back in October, TDS scooped up the cable and broadband assets of Mead, Colo.-based K2 Communications. In early November, TDS completed its purchase of cable operator Crestview Cable communications, which brought TDS service areas in central Oregon with more than 21,000 homes passed. In 2014, TDS bought Bend Broadband, another Oregon-based operator, for $261 million.
Once the deal closes, TDS says it plans to build out its fiber optic connections to more customers and roll out its TDS TV offering.
“We are confident this transaction will greatly benefit current Merrimac Communications customers, as well as residents and businesses in the area,” Butman adds.
