Telefunken Communications is in the process of deployoing PON technology from Aurora Networks. Telefunken began to launch new internet services for both residential and commercial customers in select communities in Germany in April.
Aurora Networks is supplying Telefunken with equipment from its Unified PON (passive optical network) portfolio. That includes high-density and outdoor-hardened chassis platforms, the company’s Node PON technology, a range of ONTs for both residential and business applications, and its AurOS software for DOCSIS provisioning of EPON (DPoE). Aurora Networks said 10G-EPON will be a future capability.
Telefunken customers can now get up to 150 Mbps internet services. Going forward, they will also be able to sign-up for telephony, digital TV and interactive on-demand services. Business customers can sign-up for advanced capabilities, including data rates up to 250 Mbps symmetrical.
“We focus on providing fiber-optic based high-speed broadband services in Germany in areas un- and underserved with other terrestrial networks like ADSL and coax-cable,” said Hardy Heine, member of the management board and head of marketing and sales, Telefunken Communications.
“As the expert in Optical Transport and Access Network solutions, Aurora Networks is always pushing technology boundaries to provide the best solution for our customers,” said Scott Weinstein, vice president of marketing, Aurora Networks. “Our Unified PON portfolio is optimized for operators who want to cost-effectively evolve their networks to meet changing customer demand.”
