If you happen to have several hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket, know a child (or small adult) with a technology obsession, and can appreciate a sweet toy, we might just have a solution to all your problems.
Radio Flyer, best known for its red toy wagon, has partnered with Tesla to create a toy version of the Tesla Model S. The Tesla Model S For Kids will use Flight Speed lithium-ion removable batteries to hurtle your child along at a backbreaking 3 or 6 miles per hour, depending on if you set it on beginner or advanced. The electric-powered mini Tesla is almost an exact replica of its big brother, offering working headlights, a sound system, turbine rims, and a premium paint finish available in Tesla’s Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, or Red Multi-coat. Obviously, it also comes with the batteries, which can be fully charged in just about three hours thanks to the company’s avoidance of traditional lead-acid batteries. Plus, it plugs in just like the full-size version if you don’t feel like removing the battery.
If that’s not enough, you can get a car cover designed to match the real Tesla, allowing for a Bobbsey Twins effect in your garage. If you’re worried about storing your gear without the roomy backseat of a traditional Power Wheels, you can always load up the “frunk.” (Editor’s Note: I did not misspell that, it’s a trunk in the front. It’s called a Frunk. )
Much like the adult version, it comes with a pretty steep price tag when compared to competitors. The Tesla Model S For Kids will run you about $500, while a Power Wheels® Porsche 911 GT3 will cost about $360 and a Power Wheels® Barbie™ Cadillac® Escalade™ comes in at $400.
Just think of how cool your kid will looking blasting past the neighborhood kids at 6 mph, while they toil along at measly 5 mph.
If you were thinking of ordering one for yourself when they start shipping in May, think again. They have a max weigh of 81 LB and a suggested age of 3 to 8.
