Japan’s recently deregulated telecom market is apparently too good an opportunity to pass up. UK-based Cable and Wireless plans to spend about $1.4 billion to build an optical fiber network connecting 80 Japanese cities over the next five years.
The company plans on building a network of cable “loops” linking office buildings in Osaka and Tokyo, and to triple the size of the carriers’ data center.
Cable and Wireless is targeting large companies that are expanding their Internet and other data services use. Sounding determined, Cable and Wireless said it is quite focused on carving out a significant portion of the market for itself.
