The Ski Channel inks on-demand deal with Comcast

July 20, 2010 By Mike Robuck

The Ski Channel has signed a long-term distribution on-demand agreement with Comcast, the nation’s largest cable operator.

With the Comcast deal, the 18-month-old network is now in front of more than 43 million U.S. households between all of its television distributors. Financial terms of the agreement weren’t released.

The agreement gives Comcast VOD users access to Warren Miller movies, Greg Stump films, destination travel content and instructional videos.

“Our deal with Comcast enables us to reach skiers and snow sports enthusiasts in destination ski areas and local and ski destination feeder markets,” said Steve Bellamy, chairman and CEO of The Ski Channel. “The fact that Comcast is innovative and advancing television technology enhances the value proposition immensely for us, as we too are on the cutting edge of technology.”

The Ski Channel is also producing a slate of original films, which include profiles of Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn and Bill Johnson.

“The Ski Channel brings great independent programming to our customers and is a unique and targeted fit for many of our local markets,” said Matt Strauss, senior vice president of new media at Comcast.
