Time Warner Cable has upped its DVR capability in its Los Angeles and New York City markets with a new six-tuner gateway from Arris.
Arris’ DCX3600 gateway features a 1-terabyte hard drive, which features up to six times more storage capacity than current Time Warner Cable DVRs. Time Warner Cable announced the new gateway under the moniker of “Enhanced DVR,” in reference to the improved DVR features and capacity.
Los Angeles and New York City were the first cities out of the gate for Time Warner Cable’s TWC Maxx all digital upgrade, which has also included the launch 300 Mbps tiers in both cities as well as the new Arris DVRS. In addition to Los Angeles, New York City and Austin upgrades this year, TWC Maxx will touch down in Charlotte, Dallas, Hawaii, Kansas City, Raleigh, San Antonio and San Diego next year.
“DVR customers are passionate about watching what they want, when they want. Our new Enhanced DVR transforms our customers’ TV experience by allowing them to record all their favorite shows at once and store a vast library of programming,” said Peter Stern, Time Warner Cable executive vice president, chief product, people and strategy officer. “Enhanced DVR is just the latest highlight for our customers in the nation’s two largest cities. By the end of this year, customers throughout New York City and Los Angeles will have access to Internet speeds up to 300 Mbps; all-digital TV with the most HD channels of any local provider; and a graphically rich programming guide with up to 39,000 hours of on demand content choices — all backed with rock-solid reliability.”
The Arris DCX3600M Video Gateway includes a DOCSIS 3.0 modem with 8×4 channel bonding as well as the ability to watch, pause, rewind and fast-forward DVR shows recorded on the master DVR on up to four other HD set-top boxes in a home.
Pricing for Enhanced DVR includes:
• Retail pricing (excludes set-top box rental fee); single room (SR) $15.99, whole house (WH) $19.99
