Time Warner Cable recently completed its expansion to the island of North Haven in Maine, which means the nation’s second-largest cable operator is now able to offer its triple play services there, including more than 100 HD channels.
“We’re pleased to make this significant investment on North Haven on behalf of our 1,000 employees in Maine,” said Paul Schonewolf, Time Warner Cable’s area vice president for New England. “Expanded broadband access is critical in a rural state like ours, and opens up opportunities for people and businesses to reach international markets right from the comfort of their home. Time Warner Cable is committed to providing broadband access throughout Maine to connect people and businesses with information, entertainment and each other.”
Construction work on North Haven kicked off in the fall and was wrapped up earlier this month. The project included the installation of 20 miles of new fiber optic and coaxial cable, which has the potential to serve 300 homes and businesses.
In order to send and receive signals to the island’s network, Time Warner Cable said it leased space on a submerged fiber-optic line owned by Fox Island Electric Co. that runs from Rockport to the island.
The North Haven project was part of Time Warner Cable’s expansion was part of a rural broadband initiative, funded entirely by the company, which included significant expansions and upgrades in Aroostook County and Vinalhaven.
Since 2006, Time Warner Cable has invested over $220 million in new technology and infrastructure in Maine. The company has been a Maine cable provider for over 30 years and, with the addition of North Haven, now serves 268 communities in Maine.
