Time Warner Cable’s New York City subscribers now have access to more than 165 HD channels with the launch of three additional HD nets this week.
Time Warner Cable added Oxygen HD, Sundance HD and Wedding Central HD to its New York City channel lineup.
“Time Warner Cable’s expanded HD lineup for New York City market customers reinforces our commitment in delivering a unique variety of HD and entertainment programming,” said Howard Szarfarc, regional vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable’s East Region/NYC. “With Time Warner Cable’s HD programming, customers receive amazing picture quality and Dolby Digital sound, along with numerous HD channels that are Start Over- and Look Back-enabled, where customers can restart a show in progress or go back up to three days to watch a program you missed.”
Time Warner Cable’s New York City footprint serves more than 1.3 million customers in four New York City boroughs – Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn – as well as Mt. Vernon, Hudson Valley (Orange, Sullivan, Ulster counties and parts of Dutchess, Greene and Delaware counties), and Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey.
In addition to satellite video providers, Time Warner Cable competes against Verizon in the New York City metro footprint. A spokeswoman for Verizon said that it currently offers 137 HD channels in the NYC market, but there are HD channels on Time Warner Cable’s lineup that FiOS is not entitled to, including Madison Square Garden-owned MSG HD and MSG Plus HD, as well as Time Warner Cable-owned NY1 HD. Madison Square Garden was spun off from Cablevision last year.
