Time Warner Cable to offer more HD, on-demand in N.C.

June 28, 2010 By Mike Robuck

Thanks to a $12 million fiber-optic upgrade, Time Warner Cable subscribers in some areas of North Carolina are in the process of getting more than 100 new HD and 50 on-demand channels.

Time Warner Cable started rolling out the new channels last week in Elizabeth City, with Ahoskie, Murfreesboro, and parts of Pasquotank and Hertford counties to follow over the next few weeks.

The fiber-optic upgrade also allowed Time Warner Cable to start offering new services, including a digital phone service.

“With this $12 million investment, we are able to offer our customers the very best services and some of the most advanced technology available in the state,” said Christine Whitaker, area vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable. “We’re very excited to bring the most up-to-date news and entertainment programming options to our customers in this area.”

Customers in Elizabeth City and the surrounding areas will also benefit from Time Warner Cable’s theme-based channel lineup, which group programming genres such as sports, music and children’s programming together on the channel lineups.

The groupings also make it easier for subscribers to find and view HD channels. Customers who wish to find a specific HD channel just need to add a “1” in front of the digital channel. For example, if ESPN is on channel 500, subscribers can punch in “1500” for ESPN HD.

Time Warner Cable’s Carolina Region provides video, Internet and telephone services to more than 2 million customers in more than 400 cities and towns across North and South Carolina.
