Time Warner Cable will use fixed wireless technologies to reach some small- and medium-sized businesses in San Diego, thanks to a deal with SkyRiver Communications.
Time Warner is tapping SkyRiver’s technology and surrounding wireless network to complement its fiber optic and broadband cable network in the region, and push into areas not serviced by cable or T-1 lines. SkyRiver’s wireless network covers roughly 700 square miles within San Diego County, offering speeds as high as 2.5 Mbps.
“On occasion we receive a business customer request for our high-speed data cable modem service, but servicing their previously unwired office would require extending our cable network, which may take several weeks to a month to accomplish,” said Fran Mingura, manager for TWC’s Road Runner Commercial Services division. “With SkyRiver now a part of our service options, we can have that customer up and running within two to three days.”
