Time Warner Cable previously said that its TWC TV app would be available on Android tablets before the end of the month, and it came through with yesterday’s launch.

For now, the Android version of the app doesn’t support live streaming. Time Warner Cable spokesman Justin Venech said there wasn’t a timeframe for when live streaming would become available on the Android tablets.

Time Warner Cable released its iPad app earlier this year, but the inclusion of live streaming led to a legal standoff with Viacom, although both later agreed to suspend litigation.

Comcast launched its Android app late last year but so far hasn’t come through with live streaming for either the Android or iPad apps.

At the recent SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Cox announced it would release its iPad app, which will include live streaming, during the holiday season.

As for Time Warner Cable’s Android app, it works as a remote control for the cable operator’s Mystro Digital Navigator and OCAP Digital Navigator set-top boxes. The app also features an interactive program guide (IPG) with seven days of program listings, including full program descriptions, and DVR manager functionality.

Device-wise, the app has been certified to run on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola Xoom tablets, but it was also designed to run on any Honeycomb (Android 3.x) tablet.
