TiVo has forged an agreement with Walmart’s Vudu service to provision the latter’s streaming content to TiVo devices.
The deal allows TiVo’s Roamio and Mini users to rent or buy movies and TVs shows from Vudu’s content partners, as well as access a customized Ultraviolet cloud library.
“Vudu gives our customers even more choice and flexibility when it comes to searching for, accessing and enjoying a wide variety of content,” said Tara Maitra, senior vice president, general manager, content and media sales at TiVo. “Now more than ever, TiVo makes it easy to consolidate all of your content into one, comprehensive experience that can then be accessed anywhere anytime from your TV and mobile devices.”
Vudu content that is bought via the TiVo service can be viewed on other Vudu-enabled devices or platforms including game consoles, Internet-connected Blu-ray players and HDTVs, tablets, and computers. In addition, the content purchased on any of the alternate platforms can be viewed through the TiVo service.
TiVo users will see the Vudu app appear on their devices via a rolling update over the coming weeks. The Vudu app won’t be available to TiVo’s roster of cable operator customers, which include RCN, Atlantic Broadband, Suddenlink Communications, Mediacom Communications, Wave Division Holdings, Midcontinent Communications, GCI, and Grande Communications.
Vudu’s recently expanded catalog features newly added TV shows from CBS, Comedy Central, HBO, MTV, National Geographic, Nickelodeon and Showtime as well as blockbuster movies, Hollywood classics and independent films.
