TiVo announced it has signed an expanded six-year agreement with Altice USA that extends the cable operator’s license to TiVo’s patents and brings new features to its Altice One platform.
Per the agreement, Altice is using TiVo’s Personalized Content Discovery platform to provide personalized search and recommendation features, and power conversational voice search on its cloud-based Altice One platform. Altice One is a compact whole-home hub that replaces the traditional cable box, modem, and WiFi router.
TiVo said Altice will also continue to use i-Guide and TiVo’s Gateway DVR solution, which enables customized recommendations and deep integration with OTT content.
“Today’s services, product and intellectual property announcement with Altice USA demonstrates the value of TiVo’s innovations as service providers deploy next-gen, cloud-based systems for the evolving video market,” said Enrique Rodriguez, president and CEO of TiVo. “The breadth of TiVo’s offerings provide our customers with a comprehensive suite of solutions to enable services that drive further value.”
In November, TiVo came out the winner in its patent spat against Comcast, when the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled that Comcast infringed on two Rovi (now part of TiVo) patents.
Comcast has said it will appeal the decision, but the operator was forced to disable a feature on its Stream app that enabled remote DVR scheduling.
