The results are in for Comcast’s first-ever The People’s hotlist voting campaign, which allowed Xfinity subscribers to vote for their favorite summer movies and shows from Comcast’s VOD library.
According to a blog post by Andy Hunter, vice president, programming for Comcast Cable, more than 20 million votes were cast by customers each time they watched their favorite summertime movies and TV shows.
Earlier this month, Comcast posted a mashup of the 200 “must-see” movies and TV shows from this summer. The on demand content was broken down by categories such as “Teen Favorites,” “Sitcoms & Satires,” “Oscar Nominees,” “Epic Romances,” “Family Hits,” and “Guilty Pleasures.”
The video content spanned the Xfinity On Demand library and included free, transactional and for purchase movies and TV shows.
The top 10 most-popular titles in rank order were:
• “The Last Ship” (TNT)
• ”Big Brother” (CBS)
• “24: Live Another Day” (FOX)
• “The Strain” (FX)
• “Bad Girls Club” (Oxygen)
• “The Bridge” (FX)
• “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” (VH1)
• “America’s Got Talent” (NBC)
• “Under the Dome” (CBS)
More than half of the 20 plus million votes were cast for TV shows with serial dramas and reality shows leading the pack, according to Hunter. Over the past 10 days, 23 million hours of People’s Hotlist programming was gobbled up by Xfinity TV customers.
Kids movies proved popular as well, with more than 700,000 votes going to hits such as “Frozen,” “Despicable Me 2,” and “The Lego Movie.”
Events like The People’s Hot List are part of Comcast’s ongoing effort to help its subscribers find and discover content from its on demand library that features more than 55,000 choices.
