Hitachi Communication Technologies America announced today that Troy Cablevision is using its RFoG product for a fiber-to-the-premises build-out in Troy, Ala.
With Hitachi’s Node+Zero Radio Frequency over glass (RFoG) product, FTTP services are currently being provided to approximately 1,600 business and residential subscribers, with continuing deployments in 2010 expected to reach an additional 1,100 customers in Troy and surrounding areas.
“We began deploying the Hitachi Node+Zero RFoG modules about one year ago, delivering video, data and voice services,” said Dick Freeman, Troy Cablevision’s president. “We find they perform flawlessly, and the all-fiber network provides advantages for both business and residential customers, including uniform service quality, increased reliability, lower powering and reduced maintenance costs.”
Last month, Troy Cablevision was awarded a $26 million grant to support the southeast Alabama SmartBand initiative, a major expansion of broadband service in southeast Alabama. The grant, administered by the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA), was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
