Time Warner Cable launched its Business Class Mobile 4G-based service in metropolitan areas of North Carolina yesterday and expects to have DOCSIS 3.0 tiers, both business and residential, rolled out in the Charlotte area over the next few weeks.
Time Warner Cable started reselling Clearwire’s Clear residential service under its own name, Road Runner Mobile, in the Charlotte area last fall.
Time Warner Cable Business Class, a division of Time Warner Cable, launched Business Class Mobile yesterday in Charlotte, Raleigh and Greensboro.
“With Business Class Mobile, companies will be more productive because they can take the office with them when they are on the go,” said Maureen Rooney, president of Time Warner Cable’s Business Class operation in the Carolinas. “This wireless solution further broadens our portfolio of products and services for the commercial segment.”
Time Warner Cable will launch both Road Runner Mobile and Business Class Mobile in Kansas City next month. Business Class Mobile has download speeds of up to 6 Mbps when inside Time Warner Cable’s service area. The service also allows subscribers to connect to Clearwire investor Sprint’s 3G network when they’re traveling out of their Time Warner Cable service area.
Business Class Mobile customers also have access to Clearwire’s 4G network in additional markets outside of the Time Warner Cable footprint, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
This year, Clearwire’s 4G network coverage is slated to expand to additional cities, including New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Los Angeles. With Clearwire, Time Warner Cable will feature the service in its Rochester, New York City and Syracuse, N.Y., markets, as well as its Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, markets, while Clearwire and Comcast will launch 4G in the other markets.
More DOCSIS 3.0
A spokesman for Time Warner Cable said the launch of DOCSIS 3.0 tiers in the Charlotte area was imminent. Like it has done in other markets, Time Warner Cable will offer a 50 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up tier for both residential and business class customers. The speed of the second tier wasn’t available, but in past launches Time Warner Cable’s speeds have been 30/5 and 20/2.
Time Warner Cable Business Class launched 50/5 and 20/2 tiers in New York City last fall in its first DOCSIS 3.0 deployment, while Time Warner Cable rolled out a 50/5 residential service.
In February, Time Warner Cable Business Class started offering 50/5 and 20/2 in Cincinnati. In Cincinnati, the 50 Mbps service is priced at $349.95 per month, while the 20 Mbps is $309.95. In New York City, the 50 Mbps service is priced at $289.95, while the 20 Mbps is $199.95.
Time Warner Cable has also launched DOCSIS 3.0 in Buffalo and Syracuse, N.Y., and in Dallas.
