People who subscribe to Time Warner Cable (TWC) VoIP can now use their phone service anywhere in the world they have access to a Wi-Fi signal.
TWC has launched an app, called Phone 2 Go, that lets its Home Phone customers take their service on-the-go at no additional cost. Customers can text or place voice or video calls (TWC noted it supports Skype) using their smartphones or tablets.
International calls from the U.S. carry whatever charges TWC charges now. Customers making calls outside the U.S. will of course avoid cellular roaming charges, but will still be billed by TWC as if the call were being made from the U.S.
The app is available for Apple devices running iOS 6.0 and higher (iPhones, iPads and iPad Minis), and Android devices running version 4.1 and higher (smartphones and tablets).
Customers can set up their smartphone or tablet to receive calls forwarded from their home phone service anywhere they have access to a WiFi or, under some circumstances, a cellular data connection.
TWC allows customers to register up to five devices on a home phone line.
Customers with TWC Standard Internet service have free access to nearly 50,000 free TWC WiFi Hotspots and more than 250K free Cable WiFi hotspots around the country.
“With the launch of Phone 2 Go, home phone service is no longer limited by physical location. Our customers can now use their Home Phone service and calling plan no matter where they are, including overseas,” said Jeff Lindsay, GM of Time Warner Cable Home Phone service.
