Time Warner Cable has added live streaming of Scripps Networks Interactive’s channels, which include the Travel Channel and Food Network, to its TWC TV app.
The Scripps channels are available on iOS and Android platforms, as well as the cable operator’s TWCTV.com web portal. Subscribers can access the video content via Wi-Fi connections.
While Time Warner Cable has continued to bleed basic video customers over the past few years, it has been proactive on the TV Everywhere front. Among cable operators, Time Warner Cable was first out of the starting blocks two years ago with an iPad app that featured live streaming into subscribers’ homes over its IP network. Since then, Time Warner Cable has updated the app several times
“We’re thrilled to add Scripps Networks’ live channels to the growing amount of TV content available on TWC TV outside the home,” said Mike Angus, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Video for Time Warner Cable. “Customers can now get their fill of Property Brothers, Cutthroat Kitchen and Ghost Adventures as it airs, anytime, anywhere.”
Other Scripps channels that are available for out-of-home live streaming include HGTV, DIY Network and the Cooking Channel.
TWC TV content already available outside the home includes over 1,100 hours of on demand TV shows and movies from 26 networks and live TV news, sports and entertainment channels.
TWC TV is available at no additional cost to Time Warner Cable video subscribers. Channel line-ups vary by market and depend on the video subscription package to which a customer subscribes. A Time Warner Cable authorized modem is still required for in-home access to the complete TWC TV line-up.
The app is available on Apple iOS, Android devices running release 4.0 or higher, PCs and Macs, Roku devices and Xbox 360 game consoles.
Yesterday AT&T announced that its U-verse App could stream more than 100 live channels, including around 20 that are available for viewing outside of subscribers’ homes.
