Time Warner Cable has upgraded its TWC TV app for Android devices, which includes access to some content out of subscribers’ homes.
Last month Time Warner Cable announced some of its VOD content and live programming were available to customers outside of their homes on Apple’s iOS devices. The Android update, which will be available from Google Play on Tuesday, supports older devices that are running Android 2.2 or higher.
According to Time Warner Cable blogger Jeff Simmermon, the “serious” Android update will include access to over 4,000 VOD shows and movies from 90 different sources. The out-of-home content mirrors the iOS offerings and includes more than 1,100 VOD shows and movies from 26 networks, and around a dozen live TV news, sports and entertainment channels. The video content varies by market.
Time Warner Cable also improved the live TV mini guide on the new app, which includes the ability to filter content by genre, such as action, comedy, and sports, or by recently watched channels. Viewers can also sort the live TV mini guide by network or show titles.
“With this update, our app now supports video playback on 98 percent of all Android devices running Android 2.2 or higher,” Simmermon. director, digital communications, wrote.
