Time Warner Cable has blended in a VOD guide on its TWC TV app that runs on Roku’s platform.
The Roku platform launched early last with an initial focus on live TV, but the latest update allows those users to see some of Time Warner Cable’s VOD library right from the live TV guide.
“For some of the 6,000 available on demand choices, a play icon appears in the live TV guide, which will play that specific episode or movie from the beginning,” blogged Time Warner Cable public relations manager Nathalie Burgos. “Just tune to the live stream, then click OK on the Roku remote to launch the on demand version of the asset. This neat feature is a handy way to start over and avoid spoilers if you’re in the middle of catching up on ‘Homeland.’”
The guide option on the main menu also shows a traditional grid guide with seven days of TV listings.
In addition to the VOD content, the TWC TV app also features more than 300 live channels that also can be watched on a computer, iPad, Fan TV, Xbox 360, iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire HD/HDX and Samsung Smart TV.
In Time Warner Cable’s second quarter earnings conference call earlier this year, CEO Rob Marcus said the TWC TV App was used more than 9 million times in the month of June, which was a 70 percent increase from a year earlier.
