TWCBC hooks up school district with Metro Ethernet

June 4, 2010 By Mike Robuck

Time Warner Cable Business Class, a division of Time Warner Cable, will be providing fast Metro Ethernet services to a Charlotte, N.C., school district after submitting a successful bid proposal.

Time Warner Cable Business Class (TWCBC) said it has invested more than $3.4 million to install a fiber-optic network and other equipment for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District. The system is slated to go live July 1.

As part of the three-year contract, TWCBC will provide fiber-optic-based Metro Ethernet services to more than 200 schools in the district. In addition to the speed of the Metro Ethernet service, TWCBC said other factors that played a part in its winning bid were reliability and local support.

TWCBC said it is the predominant provider of North Carolina public school systems, serving 1,700 school sites. With the addition of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Time Warner Cable Business Class provides its fiber-optic metro connectivity to nearly half of all schools in the state.

Time Warner Cable Business Class was founded in 1998, and it currently serves more than 280,000 business customers in Time Warner Cable’s 23 divisions.
